Debie is visiting Peggy. She flew into San Jose. The next day we drove up to the Petaluma area to be in place for a cob ( sand, clay, straw) oven building workshop which Debs had signed us up for. Though we had fun, the structure came tumbling down late in the second day and it was too late for us to start again...leaving the homeowners and workshop leader with a bit of a mess. PS Don't take out the supports for your oven too soon...as our leader did.
Today, we did a 12-hour day touring. We had a morning 3+ hour tour at 'Safari West' just outside of Santa Rosa. Our guides and the general feel of the wildlife exhibits were wonderful! The Safari jeep ride lasted about two hours and along the way we learned a lot about the animals. Debie rode shotgun with the guide and I took a turn on the upper-deck seats. My personal favorites were the giraffes (12 or so), Debie's favorites were the bird avary (the bird who goes in the crocodile's mouth) and the Serval cat. We then drove to Point Reyes, aiming for the lighthouse. When we finally got near, it was very foggy. We walked uphill on a path for a long way before we got to the signs that said "Continuing to the lighthouse will be going down the equilivant of 30 stories of stairs and of returning up the same. Well, I was done. Not Debie, she zipped down and back, mercy! More fun to come.
